WANKOSLOP Japan line-up!... we leave mid-April...  over the last month or two I've been working with Rod Cooper to make a travel-size subsonic noisebass for me to take on the tour and it turned out absolutely amazing. Two bass strings and three springs, stainless steel neck, Fijian Mahogany body... Rod & I developed the design together and he did the construction and science cause he's a fuggin GENIUS... this thing sounds utterly MASSIVE... but is also really versatile and does subtle ambient stuff very well too! Thank you Rodney!!

UMBILICAL TENTACLE @ The Tote - 07/04/2016

Increased tremblings measured of late by the Seismologists of Eastern Australia are no mistake. There is indeed a significant event approaching:
DEAD and MoE are touring together. It’s the double bill you need n your life. You have been warned.
And yes that is THE MoE from Norway; legendary noise rock/avant garde DIY stalwarts.
Two relentlessly active and uncompromising bands; it’s a pissing contest of low end, high output and DIY cred. Remember that time John Farnham sold out 17 concerts at the Tennis Centre? This will be nothing like that.

First show of the tour. For full dates go here:

Cheers to Wayne from COLOSTOMY BAGUETTE? for this one!

'STILL AGITATED' - 13/02/2016

'Still Agitated' is a conceptual improvisation by Todd Anderson-Kunert, requiring five drummers and five noiseicians to surround the edges of the room, and follow simple visual and audible directives as they spread from one performer to the next.

Drummers:
Joe Talia
Nat Grant
Llara Goodall
Leo Kavanagh
Michael McNab

Noisicians:
Todd Anderson-Kunert
CiarĂ¡n Geoghegan
Carey Knight
Mark Groves
Spasmoslop

Evening also includes supporting sets from:
Xenosine
The Vainglories

$10 Entry.

NOTE: I'm not entirely sure how much room is left in Conduit Arts Initiative after we fill it with five drum kits and five amplifiers / noise rigs, but the venue was chosen for its potential intimacy and intensity.

-------------------------------------

Thanks Todd AK and Conduit! This should be real cool... it's kinda like a human feedback loop laser beam going around until we melt the floor. Some really sick players in this and I'm thrilled to be laser beaming with them.. and the only idiot using a performing name!

UMBILICAL TENTACLE - 23rd & 24th Jan

Sydney's finest doo wop grind band FRAME 313 travels down to Melbourne for the first time ever to maybe launch their new 7" record "Streets Of Gold" if the pressing plant does its job.

Joining them are auditors of magic UMBILICAL TENTACLE, purveyors of fire CORDELL, wizards of crystal powers METH LEPPARD and finally the connoisseurs of the finer things in life SMACK BABY.

We heard that the Brisbane Grindcore Syndicate has been talking smack about you so you should come by and prove them wrong by moshing everywhere, especially at this gig.

Top Music Stuff 2015

Jumping on the list bandwagon... new and old releases/bands/stuff I enjoyed the most in 2015....

ACTIVE STENOSIS [https://activestenosis.bandcamp.com]
The premium flying-guts sloshing drum-machine goregrind! This bloke can do no wrong!

MEATAL ULCER [https://meatalulcer.bandcamp.com]
Australia's (maybe the World's?) most outrageous chundering gore vocals and most intense goregrind! A whirlwind of gross.

+ A SYMPHONY OF DEATH RATTLES compilation tape [http://www.discogs.com/Various-A-Symphony-Of-Death-Rattles/release/6766719]
Excellent first label release from my favourite Frenchman, Pierre of BLUE HOLOCAUST & BRAINDEAD zine. A disgusting collection of some of the best goregrind bands of the last few years.

+ ECOSTENCH - "Discography 1995-1997" [https://mortvillenoise.bandcamp.com/album/discography-1995-1997]
"Hidden gem" of the year! Raw grind with elements of humour and experimental touches which are actually really good!

+ ASBESTOSISIS - "Blocked Up From Barbeque" [https://asbestosisis.bandcamp.com]
Melbourne Morticianwave cavernous sewer goregrind spew!

+ G.O.D. - "Body Horror" [https://blastasfuk.bandcamp.com/album/body-horror]
Top-shelf gory grindcore from Canada, and "Most Pwanging Snare" 2015!

+ CAPTAIN CLEANOFF - "Rising Terror" [https://blastasfuk.bandcamp.com/album/rising-terror]
Australia's catchiest grindcore band get more riffs stuck in heads.

+ AVIAN TERROR [https://avianterror.bandcamp.com]
My new favourite band from Sydney... Raw and wild pure grindcore!

+ MACHETAZO covering a MORTICIAN song on their split with R.A.S. [https://youtu.be/iHd1LaViVUI]
Best MACHETAZO song since the "Trono de Huesos" album!

+ TERMINATOR 666 - "Demo 2011" [https://terminator666.bandcamp.com/album/demo-2011]
Best/Worst Music & Band Name of 2015. The most delightfully sloppy shitty shit I've heard since early PLASMA!

+ TECHNICAL ITCH - "Souls of Impatience" studio mix [http://techitch.com]
Recent mix from the master of dark, brooding drum & bass. Precision sound art with a beat!

+ EATBRAIN podcast [https://soundcloud.com/eatbrain/sets/podcasts]
Cutting-edge neuro/tech drum & bass mixes. Incredibly intricate sound design - some of the juiciest textures I've ever heard!

+ BARCODE FILTHCAST [https://soundcloud.com/filthcastpodcast]
Heavy/tech/hard drum & bass mixes from the more extreme end of things.

+ ROT - "Fatality" EP
Because I haven't heard their new one yet, and really, this stupendous EP from 1996 should always be in every list... forever!

CLOGGED, by CLOGGED tape / DD

Re-Post from RADICAL BLARGHST

"Fat throbbing gore riffs, hyper blasting, deranged Drumming, 3 headed roar/shriek/shifted Vocal, a big Noisecore hard-on sporting Goregrind monstrosity, bursting out of a secret lab and consuming scientists whole. Dense, nasty, un-serious, bizarre and brutal." -Gonzo Karaoke '15
Yep, pretty much. Down to the last pile of copies so get on it if you can't be buggered waiting around for the next run of tapes sometime in the new year.
https://radicalblarghst.bandcamp.com/album/clogged

Humble thanks to Gonzo Karaoke for that rather insightful review! It really nails what we're going for with this band. Much appreciated!

HOLY BONER @ MIUC 18th Birthday! - 05/01/2016

The Make It Up Club has been committed to nurturing, presenting and promoting avant-garde improvised music and sound performance since 1998, making it one of the longest continually-running improv nights in the world. 2016 sees our Club reach the numerically momentous 18-year milestone, so we cordially invite you to partake in the sort of annual aleatoric festivities befitting an improv night who’s just reached legal voting/tattooing/drinking age. The Club is undeniably a sonically variegated beast, so four diverse assemblages of stupendous spontaneous soundmakers have offered to fill each Tuesday at Bar Open with brutal jubilations and textural exaltations.

The first week features three of Melbourne’s rowdiest ‘rock’ groups eschewing their usual composed fare for some intense indeterminacy with a special guest noisemaker each - with proto-metal boogie shredders Power featuring cacophonous guitar deity Dave Brown, post-punk-flavoured-garage punx Cable Ties featuring boyzIImencore tapemangler Llara Isabell Arena, and the recently resurfaced unrelenting noisecore devastation of Holy Boner (duo) featuring bonus electrodensities from Todd Anderson-Kunert and James Tolman.

January 5th

- Power feat. Nathan Williams (Guitar, Voice), Isaac Ishadi (Bass) & Penke Ethman (Drums) w/ Dave Brown (Guitar, Electronics)
- Cable Ties feat. Jenny McKechnie (Guitar, Voice), Nick Brown (Bass) & Shauna Ceratops (Drums) w/ Llara Goodall (Tapes, Electronics)
- Holy Boner feat. Nik Kennedy (Throat, Noise Bass, Electronics
), Brad Smith (
Throat, Drums), James Tolman (Throat, Noise) & Todd Anderson-Kunert (Throat, Electronics)

Last weeks' gigs

Forgot to post about these last week... good gigs! Thanks to everyone involved!

The final Make It Up Club for 2015 features a motley crew of fourteen fine representatives from the myriad of Melbournian musicians who have bestowed the Club with aleatoric delights this year, congregating from their respective corners of the sonoverse to mutually revel in the splendour of spontaneous collaboration. Drawing on Annalee Koernig’s curatorial tactic for the Stutter Big Band of smashing together disparate improvisers adept at sensitive auditory engagement, participants from the new garde to the OG MIUC posse will utilise string, skin, wind and things to transmute slivers of mangled jazz, exquisite contemporary classical, brutal shitcore, lush drone, delectable noise, ecstatic psychedelia and boyzIImencore into a capriciously complex sonic entity attesting to the rich intricacy of our fertile local sonic terrain. There will be three sets of approximately 20 minutes length and no further imposed parameters, because improvisation and sonic liberation are awesome.
